Specialist Pain Medicine Physician | Interventional & Multidisciplinary Pain Management
Dr Rohan Kamath is a dual-trained Specialist Pain Medicine Physician with extensive experience in the assessment and management of complex acute and chronic pain conditions. Combining qualifications in both General Practice and Pain Medicine, he provides a holistic, patient-centred approach focused on improving function, quality of life, and long-term wellbeing.
Dr Kamath completed his Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners before undertaking advanced specialist training through the Faculty of Pain Medicine at the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. He trained at leading tertiary pain centres including Austin Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, gaining extensive experience in evidence-based multidisciplinary pain management for highly complex presentations.
His clinical interests include the management of:
- Chronic back and neck pain
- Neuropathic pain
- Post-surgical pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
- Headache and migraine disorders
- Musculoskeletal and joint pain
- Degenerative and injury-related pain conditions
Dr Kamath has a strong interest in interventional pain medicine and offers a range of image-guided procedures tailored to appropriate patients, including:
- Lumbar medial branch blocks
- Radiofrequency neurotomy (radiofrequency ablation)
- Sacroiliac joint injections and radiofrequency procedures
- Hip, knee, and shoulder joint injections
These procedures are provided in collaboration with Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Rez Rahim, as part of a comprehensive and coordinated treatment approach.
He is also involved in coordinating advanced pain management pathways, including inpatient ketamine infusions and multidisciplinary pain rehabilitation programs where clinically appropriate.
Known for his calm, approachable, and compassionate manner, Dr Kamath places strong emphasis on listening carefully to patients, understanding their goals, and developing personalised treatment plans that address the broader impact of pain on daily life.
He believes effective pain management extends beyond medications and procedures alone, often requiring consideration of movement, sleep, mood, lifestyle, work capacity, mental wellbeing, and personal values.
His goal is not simply to reduce pain scores, but to help patients restore function, regain confidence, improve independence, and return to meaningful activities.
Outside of medicine, Dr Kamath enjoys travelling, adventure sports, and spending quality time with his wife, Dr Reema Kohli, and their family. He values balance, connection, and bringing the same warmth and grounded perspective from his personal life into the care of his patients.
