Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialist
Dr. Prasanna Gamage is a Specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (FACSEP). He has extensive experience in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of sporting injuries, and acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, with expertise in advanced non-surgical treatments. From pain relief and rehabilitation to performance optimisation and long-term health, Dr. Gamage is committed to providing personalised, evidence-based care that supports patients in achieving their goals
His clinical interests include ultrasound-guided injection therapies and regenerative medicine procedures for the management of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
Dr. Gamage has extensive experience working with athletes at both elite and community levels. He has provided medical care at major international events, including the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (Basketball), and has held roles with Australian Cricket teams and VFL teams. His involvement also spans a wide range of sports, including cricket (WBBL), basketball (WNBL), NRL, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and athletics. He is passionate about helping athletes of all levels and is committed to optimal recovery, maximising performance, and ensuring a safe return to sport and physical activity.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Gamage is an active researcher with a PhD in Sports Medicine and over 50 scientific publications. His research has focused primarily on injury prevention and management in cricket, particularly in the fields of musculoskeletal injuries and exertional heat illness.
